About

Successful building revitalization projects are complex: whether restoring a historic structure or re-imagining a new purpose for an existing property. An understanding of current conditions is critical, balanced by a vision for what could be.

About the firm

With every project, the primary concern is to understand a client’s challenges and goals with a property and to help them create a responsive plan that also effectively navigates the complex circumstances that often define preservation and rehabilitation projects.

Nearly 30 years of professional experience on a breadth of projects involving design, planning, condition assessments, historic preservation and environmental sustainability informs the way the firm approaches each project. Expertise in code, detailing and project management serve the efficient use of both time and funds while our commitment to transparency and communication keep stakeholders informed.

About Heidi Y. Granke, AIA

At a young age, Heidi was drawn to old buildings. The spark occurred during a family Sunday afternoon drive when she saw a new glass and steel box being built next to a vacant, yet beautiful, old stone building. She thought the glass and steel box was rather ugly and would be boring to draw (just lots of straight lines), and that it was a shame that they were not reusing the stone building next to it. This small spark ignited her life-long passion for architecture and preservation.

Heidi’s experience reinvigorating existing buildings has allowed her to work with clients ranging from small non-profits to the National Parks Service, from state and local governments to private developers. She has worked on a wide variety of projects including single room cabins, barns, iconic hotels, historic campuses and nearly everything in between.

“[Heidi’s] understanding of the complex history of the structures, the manifestation of that history in the physical materials of the buildings, and the relationship of those concepts to our planned interventions ensured that this turned out to be a thoughtful and successful project.”
